After doing a few freelance projects here and there and working with some colleagues, I realized that I needed a system to help me track and manage my projects. I had looked around and found that there are several options out there. Some more popular than others. Some are free, and other are not. There is Basecamp, and there also activecollab to name a few. They both have cool features but both come with a price. For Basecamp you can get a free account but you don’t get all the goodies and you are limited to just a few projects. AcitveCollab does not offer a free version and is quite pricy.

After looking around and searching for other options, I stumbled up on ProjectPier. At first glance it didn’t look like much but after looking in into it some more I realized it had some potential. First off, it had a lot of similar features to the some of the other ones I had looked at. Another thing I liked was the fact that it was open source and that I was able to download and install it on my server and not have to redirect clients to another site. The skin or theme can be fully customized to look any way you want and there are other themes available to install. It does have some restrictions and is also lacking some cool features that the other ones have but I think that for what it can do, it has become the main candidate for me to manage my projects and collaborate with colleagues.
